Abstract

This study revealed black women's resistance against white women supremacy in Maya Angelou’s poem, Phenomenal Women. It is used black feminist criticism proposed by Patricia Collins to analyze the problem. This study is included in library research type and applied descriptive qualitative-interpretive method. The data collected through reading, note-taking, identifying, and classifying the data into specific subtopics. Technique of data analysis consists of describing, interpreting, analyzing and concluding. The result of the study showed that Maya Angelou’s poem Phenomenal Woman reflects the resistance against white ideal beauty and the affirmation of black woman identity in the USA. Black women with their distinct attribute revealed their outstanding and individual.
